Operation Kilimanjaro

Tipping on Mount Kilimanjaro

Tips are separate from the climb price. We will confirm the current guideline for your route, group size, and crew before you travel.

Kilimanjaro climbs are supported by guides, cooks, and porters. On our published climb exclusions, tips for the mountain crew are not included in the package price.

Any amount mentioned on an older page or quote is a guideline, not a fixed government fee. Ask us for the tipping note that matches the departure you book.

What our climb packages say

Published Kilimanjaro exclusions list tips for porters and the mountain crew, and some itineraries refer to an industry-style recommended percentage. That figure is a planning cue, not a charge we add automatically.

Safari exclusions similarly list tips for the safari guide as a personal cost. A short northern safari page on our site has also used a per-person, per-day guideline. Use the figure on your written quote.

Practical notes

Travelers usually bring US dollars in clean notes for crew tips and small personal expenses. Confirm the currency you should carry when we send your pre-departure notes.

Tipping is customarily given at the end of the climb, after the team has finished the descent. Your guide can explain how a group tip is shared.
